Track checklist
What metadata is useful for sync licensing?
A licensing-ready track usually needs more than a title and artist name. Searchable descriptive metadata helps a catalog find the right music, while rights metadata helps determine whether the track can actually be licensed.
Core music metadata to review
- Title and artist
- Genre, mood, tempo and key
- Lyrics and vocal information
- Writers, publishers, PROs and IPI numbers
- ISRC and other track identifiers
- Master and publishing ownership
- Clearance restrictions
- Available versions and deliverables
Why incomplete metadata causes problems
A strong song may still be difficult to pitch if the catalog cannot quickly answer ownership, clearance or deliverable questions. Consistent metadata makes searching easier and reduces friction when a licensing opportunity moves quickly.
