Platform Architecture

Built as a music licensing platform from the infrastructure up.

SyncCatalog was not assembled by connecting a generic CRM, file system, catalog tool and client portal. The platform stack itself was designed around the operational requirements of music licensing businesses. Infrastructure, tenant architecture, rights data, licensing workflows, customer delivery, communications and platform operations were developed as parts of the same system.

Purpose-Built Architecture

Built for this business, not adapted to it.

Most business software begins as something general-purpose and is customized later. SyncCatalog took the opposite approach.

The architecture was designed around the specific relationships between music, rights, clients, pitches, submissions, licensing activity, delivery, teams and operations.

The server environment, application architecture, data model, permissions, workflow systems, public experiences and operational controls were developed as parts of one platform rather than accumulated as disconnected tools.

The Platform Stack

Five connected layers. One operating environment.

The catalog is one part of a larger system. Each layer was designed to support the operational requirements of a music licensing organization.

01

Infrastructure Foundation

Production server infrastructure, application runtime, relational data storage, scheduled processes, backups, logging, security controls, storage management and deployment support form the base of the platform.

02

Platform Core

Organizations, users, roles, permissions, authentication, tenant isolation, customer lifecycle controls and provisioning are part of the core architecture.

03

Licensing Operations

Catalogs, artists, metadata, rights, writers, publishers, versions, submissions, licensing requests, pitches, communications, calendars and meetings operate inside one business environment.

04

Customer Delivery

Branded music sites, public catalog experiences, search, audio previews, artist and track pages, onboarding and customer-facing workflow connect back to the same platform data.

05

Operational Control

Platform health, traffic, infrastructure, backups, scheduling, deployments, customer environments and server connectivity are supported through centralized operational tooling.

From Server to Customer

The workflow sits on top of a stack built to support it.

These are not unrelated products connected after the fact. Each layer supports the next.

01
Infrastructure Runtime, data, storage, security, backups and jobs.
02
Platform Core Organizations, users, permissions and tenant separation.
03
Licensing Operations Music, rights, submissions, pitches and licensing activity.
04
Customer Delivery Catalogs, music sites, demos and client experiences.
05
Operational Control Monitoring, scheduling, backups and infrastructure visibility.
Platform Capabilities

The business requirements are reflected in the architecture.

Tenant Separation

Organizations operate within separated customer environments with platform-level access controls.

Access Controls

Users, roles, permissions and protected administrative functions are part of the platform core.

Operational Visibility

Platform and infrastructure health can be observed through centralized operational tooling.

Customer Lifecycle

Provisioning, organizational administration and customer environments are managed within the system.

Communications Layer

Messaging, calendars, meetings and support functions connect directly to the operational platform.

Public Delivery

Public catalogs and music websites use the same structured catalog and organizational data used internally.

The Difference

The stack was built around the business.

SyncCatalog is not simply a catalog application with additional tools attached to it. It was developed as operating infrastructure for music licensing businesses — with infrastructure, platform architecture, licensing workflow, customer delivery and operational controls designed to work together from the beginning.
